Welcome!

Welcome to a blog for the Hayfield Seahawks!

Here's a place for general impressions and comments on how the season is going.

For instance, may I just say how darn impressive our swimmers were at the B Meet on Monday with Mansion House?!?! There were 76 personal best times -- with many swimmers dropping lots of time per event. (In fact, there were so many that I ran out of Personal Best ribbons! A few swimmers will have an "IOU" in their folders; I plan to purchase a new pack of ribbons this week, so you'll get your actual ribbons in a few days! Thanks for your patience; sorry you have to wait!)

Speaking of Monday night's B meet, we had some parents step up to the plate in unfamiliar volunteer positions (thanks, Mr. Head-timer Hynek!). I think the parents showed as much teamwork as our kids do ~ it takes a lot of effort to make a meet run smoothly, and in the end that's what we did. Pat on the back to all the new faces and old hands alike.

Looking ahead: we've got a home meet this Saturday morning (July 4); a home meet on Monday (July 6) (note that this is a change from our original schedule - it was originally an 'away' meet); and then next Wednesday is Relay Carnival.

For those of you new to the swimming world (and even for the old veterans), the relay carnival is an official Division 11 meet. Our relay teams will compete against teams from all other teams in Division 11 - and the meet is scored. The meet events include freestyle relays and medley relays in each age group, plus the mixed-age freestyle relay. The top 4-5 fastest swimmers in each age group usually end up being entered in relay carnival.
HERE'S THE IMPORTANT PART ~ if you know you won't be available for that meet (it's on Wednesday evening, July 8) please let the coaches know IN WRITING. They'll nod and smile if you tell them in person; but, truly, it's MUCH better to write it down. There's even a special form -- available on the web site, or in the AVAILABILITY folder in the bins at the pool. (see http://hayfieldswim.googlepages.com/forms for the form) Thanks in advance.

So - I hope to use this blog to share general thoughts about the season; and offer more detail on some of our events. (Continue to look for Loren's emails and updates on the web site to get all the latest breaking news!)

See you on deck!
Lorraine
